Speaker: Dr. Al Kovaleski Studies in species spanning the seed plant phylogeny, including ornamental plants, urban trees, and woody perennial fruit crops have shown that dormancy progresses at a similar pace for all when using a cold hardiness-related phenotype. However, clear differences exist in “chill requirement” and adaptation across environments even for cultivars within the same species. While these concepts appear to be in conflict, they are not. Here we will explore ongoing work, and a combination of data and modeling approaches to understand how this comes to be based on new dormancy theory.
