Dr. Harland Patch focuses his current research on understanding the behavioral and molecular mechanisms associated with pollinator host plant choice, and the structure of plant-pollinator communities. Dr. Patch is also involved in ongoing projects to determine the interacting causes of pollinator declines in the US and in Africa. In Pennsylvania he is a member of the apiary advisory board, the author the pollinator scorecard for solar sites and is a major author of the Pennsylvania Pollinator Protection Plan. He is also Director of Pollinator Programming at the Arboretum at Penn State.
