Dr. Lakesh Sharma is an assistant professor of soil fertility and sustainable agriculture at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Lakesh has been farming since he was a child on his own farm. His academic school journey started in 2000. He is currently working on nutrient management using advanced science, such as crop modeling, sensor technology, site-specific approaches, and new ways of thinking about how to make recommendations. He is in charge of best management practices (BMPs) for the state of Florida and has been president of three American Society of Agronomy Communities. Since becoming an Assistant Professor in 2015, Lakesh has written more than 100 abstracts, 35 peer-reviewed research articles, 30 extension articles, 26 field days, 9 state-level extension conferences, and several workshops. Lakesh received an Extension Award from the National Association of County Agents in 2018. Lakesh has experience in multiple crops (Watermelons, Beans, Corn, Peanut, Sunflower, Industrial Hemp, Potatoes, Carrot, Cotton, Soybean, and Wheat). He has also worked with fruit crops such as Mango, Guava, Citrus, etc. Lakesh has secured more than 10 million dollars of research/extension funding for his program since 2015. Lakesh has graduated 2 Ph.D. and 5 MS students and mentored three Post Doctoral Fellows.
